More Than Half Of Dutch Lord Mayors Want To Legalize Cannabis |
|
Nov 20, 2008 - 11:57 AM - by User
|
More than half of all Dutch lord mayors with one or more coffeeshops on their territory, want to legalise the entire soft drugs-chain. The lord mayors want to get rid of the "frontdoor - backdoor problem, created by a policy that tolerates the sale of weed, but not the production and delivery.
That is the result of a telephone survey of weekly magazine Binnenlands Bestuur (Domestic Administration) among the 106 municipalities that have one or more coffeeshops.
Only nine in favour of ban
In total 88 lord mayors have expressed themselves: 54 are for a complete legalisation of coffeeshops, 25 want to continue tolerating according to current practice, nine lord mayors are in favour of... [Read More]

Pot Group Sues To Stop DMV From Revoking Licenses |
|
Nov 20, 2008 - 4:24 AM - by Ganjarden
|
A medical marijuana advocacy group has filed a lawsuit against the Department of Motor Vehicles for revoking the driver's license of a woman because of her status as a medical pot patient.
Americans for Safe Access sued the department on behalf of 53-year-old Rose Johnson. Her attorneys say she has had a clean driving record for 37 years. The suit claims the DMV refused to renew her license in July because of her status as a medical marijuana patient.
Attorney Joe Elford said the DMV can't "simply disregard" the state's medical marijuana law. His group asserts that similar situations have occurred in at least eight counties.
The lawsuit was filed Wednesday in Merced... [Read More]

Weed, Pot, Green… Marijuana |
|
Nov 20, 2008 - 4:19 AM - by Ganjarden
|
Just because marijuana is illegal, that does not mean that it is immoral. Slavery was legal, yet immoral. Many other contradictory cases exist. It is easy to believe that one should not do something because the law prohibits it; but sometimes that is not enough.
Imagine something other than drinking, driving or smoking. Imagine skydiving, rock-climbing, or any other extreme sport. All of them have inherent danger. What is the difference? We are legally allowed to decide for ourselves if we choose to participate. The possible benefits (thrill, excitement, enjoyment, etc.) outweigh the possible harms (injury, death) to the participants of these sports.
To me, the benefits and harms seem the same for... [Read More]

Chief Mahuna Way Out of Line |
|
Nov 20, 2008 - 4:13 AM - by Ganjarden
|
Lawrence Mahuna's diatribe against the successful Peaceful Skies initiative in the Nov. 7 West Hawaii Today serves to illustrate many things, primarily it illustrates what the public has come to expect from its County cops and what Mahuna went to great lengths to substantiate: namely, that ignorance and threats are the police way of dealing with the population they are hired to "protect and serve."
Mr. Mahuna is wrong on three major counts. First he does not work for the federal government. He is hired by and works for the county of Hawai`i. He is charged with enforcing the laws of the state and county and protecting its citizens. His statements regarding the legality of marijuana at county and not at the... [Read More]

Colleen Daley lives on a sunburnt patch of overzoned Chula Vista real estate. She is besieged by the odiferous crosscurrents of wafting grease and the crackling bark of drive-in order speakers — her one-bedroom ranch is surrounded by fast-food joints. And that’s where she thinks her problems as a marijuana farmer started.
“The plants were eight feet tall,” she says. “My boyfriend and I were trying to keep things under wraps, but you know, you can only do so much. So it’s like they kind of knew.”
“They,” she suspects, were employees from one of these restaurants who had spotted her marijuana plants sprouting up through the roof of the greenhouse... [Read More]

Update: San Francisco Chronicle Catches Drug Czar in a Crazy Lie |
|
Nov 19, 2008 - 5:44 PM - by User
|
The drug czar's recent claim that there are more medical marijuana dispensaries than Starbucks stores in San Francisco has finally achieved the level of public embarrassment it so thoroughly deserved.
San Francisco's Department of Public Health, which issues permits for medical marijuana dispensaries, is also befuddled by the federal data.
"It was extremely incorrect," said Larry Kessler, a senior health inspector at the department. "I don't know how they got that." [San Francisco Chronicle]
SF Chronicle obtained the alleged dispensary list from ONDCP and found double listings, closed businesses, and even a business in Los Angeles. With their fraud fully exposed,... [Read More]

Canada: Couple Sues Over 'Illegal' Inspection |
|
Nov 19, 2008 - 5:37 PM - by User
|
An couple has filed a lawsuit in B.C. Supreme Court seeking damages for what they claim was an illegal inspection of their home by city officials.
Glenn Ferraz and Monica Woykin claim that on May 13 police and city officials demanded entry into their Regal Parkway home to do an inspection.
"At the time, the plaintiff Woykin was at home with her child and did not answer the door," says the legal action.
The next day, the "Abbotsford inspection team," including police, returned and claimed to have the authority to enter the home under the Controlled Substance Property Bylaw and the Fire Services Act.
The bylaw is designed to let the city collect from... [Read More]

Legal Marijuana Poses Pot Puzzle |
|
Nov 19, 2008 - 5:33 PM - by User
|
Though medical marijuana soon will be legal in Michigan, patients and their caregivers still will have to break the law to get it, at least the first time.
Proposal 1 will allow approved patients and their caretakers to possess and grow the drug, but there won't be a legal way to get marijuana seeds or seedlings.
"How do you get from point A to point B? There is no law that protects you there," said James McCurtis, a spokesman for the Michigan Department of Community Health, "and we are not giving any advice on how you get your marijuana."
It's a gray area that's common to most of the 13 states that have passed medical marijuana initiatives. California is alone in... [Read More]

Medical Marijuana: What Will The Guidelines Be? |
|
Nov 19, 2008 - 5:26 PM - by User
|
If the Arcata City Council approves of the new medical marijuana guidelines tonight, patients, caregivers and dispensaries in the inland areas of the city will have to adhere to regulations imposed on the cultivation and dispensing of medical marijuana.
The council will vote on amending the guidelines, which aim to regulate how dispensaries operate in hopes of curbing Proposition 215 abuse, and add them to the recently adopted land use codes. The guidelines -- which will apply to all areas of Arcata except those that remain in the coastal zone, which is located mainly in the bottoms as well as south G Street -- will go into effect in about a month, according to senior planner Joe Mateer.

Feds Bust Canadian Pot Ring On Mohawk Reservation |
|
Nov 19, 2008 - 5:08 PM - by User
|
A Canadian drug trafficking ring used the St. Regis Mohawk Reservation in Upstate New York to smuggle more than 22,000 pounds of marijuana into the United States, state and federal authorities said Tuesday.
The international ring was run by Mickey Woods of Cornwall, Ontario, and made as much as $45 million smuggling pot into the eastern U.S. between 2005 and 2008, said acting U.S. Attorney Andrew Baxter.
Woods, 38, and his courier manager, Gaetan Dinelle, 35, also of Cornwall, were among 34 people charged Tuesday on drug conspiracy and possession counts by a federal grand jury. Of those charged, 23 were Canadians.< | |
