There is a report that convicted Australian drug smuggler Schapelle Corby is set to be be pardoned by Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
The reports came from Sydney based Think Thank, the Lowy Institute for International Policy: "Indonesian President SBY to pardon Schapelle Corby according to Indonesian sources," the Twitter account for the organization said.
Corby was jailed in 2005 for 20 years after she was convinced of smuggling 4.3 kilograms of cannabis into Indonesia.
Corby was stopped at the airport in the popular resort island of Bali at the start of a holiday with family and friends.
Her story quickly became a major story in Australia and around the world. The pretty shop assistant from Queensland pleaded her innocence throughout her detention and trial, claiming she was set up, when police found a bag full of marijuana in her surf board case.
The report was not confirmed by the office of the Indonesian President, the Corby family or the Australian government.
In April 2010, Corby had lodged a plea for clemency to the Indonesian President, but there had as yet been no indication the 32-year-old would be released before her prison sentence was due to end in April 2024.
Documents in the Corby clemency plea to the President indicated the Australian had been suffering from psychosis and had become insane.
