The Pictures :circle-of-love:

Your infused cannabis oil is now ready to use. If you’re using it with edibles or as part of a capsule regimen
* add 1 tablespoon of liquid sunflower lecithin for every cup of infused oil, mix well
* chill overnight in the fridge
* bring to room temperature
* stir throughly before filling capsules or using in an edible recipe

Essential oils can be added to enhance medicinal values of the oils.
The hygrometer?? Is this a necessity?

Not if you're using fully dried buds.
I didn't use one when I used this method.
Ohhhhh🙄 that makes sense geez nothing like dazed & confused. I really believed I knew some 💩 about this, but now I know I know less then a newborn 🫢 I AM ol skool and when my very vocal 21 yr old tells me, "well you WERE born in the 1900's" you don't know! 😲he may have a point
( note: not about this just the "new generational" crazy stuff it would be a lil inappropriate to discuss with him, tho he did teach me how to use the tv remote who knows he may know a better why to make oil🤔🤗) ty❤️

That is 11 yr old not 21 yr old !!

Not necessary but the drier the better when infusing into oil as the water in the buds will have to boil away before the temperature of the oil will be able to rise much above the boiling point of water at your location.

I usually run my buds through an air fryer cycle in my toaster oven at a very low temperature to help crisp them up. But, most of mine is used as Cannabis Dust which has its own peculiarities. If infusing into oil using an IP is not all that important but is certainly useful to dry the buds down more than you would if you were smoking them.

Well, I live in Nevada so I could put it outside for five minutes and it would be dried as an air fryer. Just ask my face 🤣 but dog jokes decide if I have any flower and I leave it out of a container without like an orange peel in it it's so dry you can't even put it in a bowl of choked to death.
So that might be my advantage see I'm so old-school back in the day when we were trim our houses I would take a stocking if you know what that is you know old ladies used to wear them well back in the 80s young ladies wear them and put it over a bowl and throw a couple buds on there tap the bowl all the pretty keif would fall into the bowl he threw that in some butter boom, but that was for brownies. I don't know if it would be the same and I don't have 20 houses to do that with anymore, so yeah, I do appreciate all the advice cause I'm gonna take everybody's advice and put it together and maybe one day I can figure it out. I still think my infused arthritis /lupus gloves would be a big hit but again you need money to make money

@bluter or anyone else who cares to weigh in, I have a question for you on the double cycle.

If we get near enough to full decarb on the first pass to work fine, why doesn't the second full cycle over decarb the herb?

Decarb is a function of time and temps, so essentially doubling the time at the same high temps seems like it should cause a good chunk of the first round early cannabinoid conversion to continue on to CBN, though that doesn't seem to be the case. :hmmmm:

I get that there is a cool down period in between, but that shouldn't negate the time and temp already spent in the first cycle.

Any sciencey explanation you could offer to help me get my head around this?

Hi Azi!

The last few times I made gummies in the Instant Pot I did this:

Decarb - place broken up buds in heat-safe container (lid finger tight only) and place in Instapot on the metal trivet; add about 2 cups of water just to bottom of trivet. Press manual / high pressure. Adjust time to heat for 40 mins (manual) to decarb.

To infuse - add 4 or 5 oz. coconut oil to completely cover the decarbed flower; stir well to coat all flower. Place container (lid on) back into the instapot. Press “Slow Cook” normal and and set timer for 2 hours.

Seems to work just fine - better than doing two rounds at manual / high for 40 mins.
I changed to a 2 hour lower temp infuse because I thought I may have been over-decarbing.

Thanks, Grateful.

I'm about to try my hand at capsules using olive oil so I reread the thread to refresh my memories about the process and want to understand the why's.

I'll be doing a CBD infusion and those temps are said to be higher for longer so I should be fine with the "official" process, but I like knowing the background of the techniques used.

Check with @InTheShed . I believe temps / time is different with CBD.

CBD decarb times and temps are the same as THC, but I've only done it in the oven, not an instant pot.
Actually I think they are longer at higher temps but, no matter as I like my acidic cannabinoids quite well in my mixes.

I'm not really interested in that aspect as such. I'm more wondering why a second round in the IP doesn't over decarb if one pass is mostly sufficient.

I've decarbed CBD and had the oil tested. No detectable CBDa at standard time/temp.

Hmmm. Thanks.

I saw one paper (maybe the GW Pharma one?) that listed a different set of parameters. But I've never had any tested so I find your results interesting.
I had two different batches of oil tested and both came back with the same CBDa results, so that's consistent enough for me to confidently say you can decarb CBD at 240º for 60 minutes open in the oven and get it done. I go longer 75-80 minutes because I decarb mine in a sealed foil pouch (to keep the smell down a bit), so I leave time for the heat to penetrate the foil.
